Eligibility Based Grants

Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year to determine eligibility for need-based federal and state financial aid. Additionally, incoming students are encouraged to complete the CSS Profile to be considered for all TCU funded aid programs. Since the grants are based in part on financial eligibility, awards may vary from year to year depending upon the economic situation of the family.

TCU Grant
Amount: Varies
Eligibility: Students with financial eligibility are considered for participation in this program. The results of the FAFSA and CSS profile as well as the strength of a student’s academic credentials are reviewed. The award is based upon the quality of the entire applicant pool. Renewal is based upon the results of the FAFSA and a minimum TCU cumulative GPA of 2.5.

Middle Income Assistance Grant
Amount: Awards vary, generally between $500 and $2,800.
Eligibility: TCU recognizes that middle income families often require assistance in the financing of a higher education. For this reason, we offer special consideration to provide assistance to individuals who may not qualify for other grant programs.

Federal Pell Grant
Amount: Awards for 2016-2017 range between $598 to $5815.
Eligibility: Largest of the federal grant awards, this program provides grants to students meeting the eligibility criteria established by the U.S. Congress.

Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
Amount: Awards range between $100 and $4,000.
Eligibility: Awarded on the basis of financial eligibility as established through the FAFSA. Priority is given to students who qualify for the Federal Pell Grant.

Tuition Equalization Grant Program
Amount: Maximum award is $3,364.
Eligibility: This state of Texas program is available to students with financial eligibility as demonstrated by the FAFSA. Renewal requires successful completion of 24 credit hours for Undergraduates or 18 credit hours for Graduate students, and a minimum TCU cumulative GPA of 2.5. TCU’s allocation is limited.

 

Religious Affiliated Grants

TCU offers several grant programs reflecting the relationship of the university to the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. Contact the TCU Financial Aid Office for applications for these programs.

To receive aid from more than one religious-affiliated program, applicants must demonstrate sufficient financial eligibility through the FAFSA (all students) and CSS profile (incoming freshmen and transfers students only).

Beasley Foundation Grant
These grants are for members of the Disciples of Christ affiliation and are made available through the Theodore and Beulah Beasley Foundation, Inc. They are based on the results of the FAFSA (all students) and CSS profile (incoming freshmen and transfers students only), academic achievement and leadership potential. The amount of assistance depends on the results of the FAFSA, CSS profile, and availability of other aid. Most awards range from $1,000 to $4,000. Consideration for renewal is based up on successful completion of at least 24 hours and a minimum TCU cumulative GPA of 2.5. Minister and Minister’s Dependent Grant
Through funds provided by the Christian churches of Texas, New Mexico and Louisiana, partial-tuition grants are available to certain categories of students attending TCU. Included are:

  • Spouses of full-time students of Brite Divinity School, the graduate seminary
  • Unmarried youths under 23 years of age who are dependent children of Christian church (Disciples of Christ) ministers in full-time active service (including missionaries) and youths of Juliette Fowler Home (including employees of the home)
  • Spouses of full-time Christian church (Disciples of Christ) ministers
  • Full-time Christian church (Disciples of Christ) ministers who wish to continue their education on a part-time basis in the undergraduate program.

Awards will be in an amount not to exceed one-half tuition for up to 18 hours per semester and is renewable for up to eight semesters. Renewal requires the student is meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress. Applications must be received by May 1 each year.

Christian Youth Fellowship Grant
Through the cooperation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), TCU is able to offer assistance to regional officers of the Christian Youth Fellowship. These awards will be in an amount not to exceed one-half of tuition for up to 18 hours per semester and are renewal for up to eight semesters. Minimum renewal requirements are a 2.5 TCU cumulative GPA and successful completion of 24 hours during the academic year.

Church Vocation Grant
Through the cooperation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), TCU is able to award financial assistance, regardless of denomination, to students preparing to become ordained clergy, church musicians or directors of religious education in a full-time church congregation vocation. The minister and the board (or governing body) of the applicant’s home congregation must certify the applicant as a member in good standing and as a candidate for full-time church congregation ministry. In addition, an essay from the candidate reflecting on the individual’s theological development and commitment to devote his/her life to ministry as a full-time vocation is required. This certification should be received by TCU prior to May 1 for the fall semester and November 1 for the spring semester.
Recipients of a Church Vocation Grant must enroll in an undergraduate program leading to a baccalaureate degree from TCU. They are required to major in religion or church music.

Prior to May 1 each year, all recipients must re-certify their commitment to enter a full-time church vocation and present evidence of their progress toward that goal. The home congregation, the TCU Scholarship Committee and the Department of Religion reviews the recertification. The student must also schedule an interview with the Chair of the Department of Religion or Coordinator of Advisement to re-affirm their goal of entering into congregational ministry and articulate that goal in their renewal essay. Award decisions are based on several factors, including academic record, applicant’s essay and letter of recommendation.

Students must file a CSS profile as an incoming freshman/transfer student in addition to filing a FAFSA each year . Although financial eligibility is considered, it is not a prerequisite for receiving the award.

The Bermont Family Undergraduate Jewish Student Scholarship
This scholarship is for entering freshmen or transfer students who are Jewish. Preference is given to student applicants who demonstrate financial need as evidenced by the FAFSA (all students) and CSS profile (incoming freshmen and transfer students only). Amount varies.

Special Grants

Tandy Grant
Amount: Award amounts vary. Students who demonstrate financial eligibility through the FAFSA (returners) and CSS profile (incoming freshmen and transfer students only) may receive awards of up to $8,000. Students with no financial eligibility may receive tuition to a maximum of $5,000 for the academic year (fall/spring).
Eligibility: Tandy Corporation employees and their lineal descendants are eligible to be considered. Employees may be part-time students; however, descendants must be be full-time students. Students must reapply annually. Renewal is based on maintenance of satisfactory academic progress requirements. Applications may be obtained from the TCU Financial Aid Office.

Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant
Amount: Awards vary, up to $4,000 per year.
Eligibility: For students who intend to teach in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves students from low-income families. TCU’s Office of Scholarships and Student Financial Aid will provide information via email to students who appear eligible for the TEACH Grant. Summer International Study Grant
Amount: Awards vary, generally between $500 and $3,000.
Eligibility: Undergraduate, degree seeking students with financial eligibility who will be returning to the University for at least one more year of study are eligible to apply for funding through this program. Applicants must have at least a 2.5 TCU cumulative GPA and must be participating in a TCU Summer International Study Program.  2017 Summer Study Abroad Grant

Personal/Professional Development Grant
Amount: 25% – 40% of tuition for up to six hours each semester. Fees are not included in the grant.
Eligibility: Year-round part-time students (enrolled for 11 hours or less) who are at least 22 years of age by the final day of late registration may apply. Student must not exceed income limitations stated on application. May not be combined with other TCU administered aid. Good academic and financial standing at all colleges and universities attended is required. Students receiving this award must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress.

Alumni Half-Tuition
Amount: Half tuition for up to seven hours per semester.
Eligibility: Students with TCU degrees are eligible to take additional undergraduate courses, except for performance music and study abroad at half-tuition. May not be combined with any other TCU or outside awards except loans. Students must register on the second day of late registration for fall and spring semesters and the first day of class for summer terms. Awards are not retroactive; therefore, anyone who registers during the general registration period cannot receive this award. Students receiving this award must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress.
